Description:
This course provides information and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to small craft emergencies on lakes. This course will prepare you for non-swimming rescues for water emergencies, self-rescue skills and how to teach basic flat-water paddling strokes. Adults (age 18 & up) who successfully complete this course will be certified to teach canoeing on lakes to girls and other adults. Girls (age 16 -17) may only be secondary instructors. Certification is valid for three years. Who: Adults ages 18 years and up; Girl Scouts ages 16 years & up Prerequisite: Participants must be able to paddle a canoe forward, backward, and in a circle. They must be able to swim 25 yards with/without wearing a life jacket and tread water for one minute. Cost: $25 (includes Small Craft Safety Book). Min/Max: 6/15. Note: Please bring food for your meals, swimsuit, towel, hat, water/water bottle, life jacket (if you prefer your own), water shoes, sunscreen, paper and pencil/pen. Deadline to register is 5/2/12 Eagle’s Nest unit at Camp Butterfly is available as lodging for Small Craft Safety - Canoeing participants on May 24.

Description:
This course is designed to renew certifications for canoeing instructors whose existing certifi cation cards have not yet expired. The Small Craft Safety - Challenge course consists of taking a written test and demonstrating water skills. Who: Adults ages 18 years and up; Girl Scouts ages 16 years & up. Prerequisite: Completion of a Small Craft Safety – Canoeing Course or equivalent. Participants must be able to paddle a canoe forward, backward, and turn a circle. They also must be able to swim 25 yards with/without wearing a life jacket and tread water for one minute. Cost: $20 Min/Max: 6/15. Note: Please bring food for your meals, swimsuit, towel, hat, water/water bottle, life jacket (if you prefer your own), water shoes, sunscreen, paper, pencil/pen and Small Craft Safety book.
