Why Give? Why Girl Scouts?
We write to share how you can help Girl Scouts make this season golden! The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, acknowledges the power behind each recipient’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself, but also to making the world a better place for others. Gold Award Girl Scouts are courageous leaders and visionary change makers. They are our future, and it looks bright! This year we honor the sustainable service of all of our Gold Award Girl Scouts who serve our 40 counties in Southern Illinois with projects such as Saran Khalid’s.
Saran has been a Girl Scout for 9 years. For her Girl Scout Gold Award project Saran wanted to increase awareness about domestic violence.
“I was able to educate my community on a very personal level about a taboo topic,” notes Saran. “I also gained self-confidence through giving my domestic/elder violence presentations. Taking charge was something I struggled with, being a reserved person. This project has allowed me to find my voice with public speaking.”
Throughout high school, Saran volunteered at a local violence prevention center. To complete her Gold Award project, Saran designed and delivered domestic violence prevention presentations. She also collected hygiene items that families living in the violence prevention center needed. In addition, she constructed hand-painted shelves the center used for storing child car seats.
Girl Scouting has helped Saran to be a courageous young woman speaking confidently and bringing attention to a difficult topic. Girl Scouting has helped develop Saran’s sense of character in order to make the world a better place. Please help us support young women such as Saran as they continue sustainable community building efforts.
As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to expand your legacy of giving and strengthen your community with a gift to Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts’ impact is life changing. Won't you please support Gold Award community building this holiday season through a year-end donation? Thank you for being a part of our story.
