Have you ever wondered if your support of Girl Scouts makes a difference? Rest assured - it does! We would like to share with you the many accomplishments that you have helped make possible, especially the Girl Scout Gold Award, which turned 100 this past year.
The Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, recognizes the leadership, effort, and impact girls in grades 9-12 have had on their communities. Only about five percent of eligible girls earn this prestigious award, but those who complete the journey change the lives of others and their own in amazing and significant ways.
Your donation enables more girls to participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, unleash their full potential, build their future, and transform their world. Your gift directly impacts the lives of girls in your community like Danielle and Nicolle, two sisters from Mt.Vernon, IL who have both earned this prestigious award.
“Girl Scouts has impacted my life so much over the years,” Nicolle said. “Not only has it helped me come out of my shell, it also taught me some important life lessons along the way. It taught me that I could be a leader — that I had the drive and the skills all along. To this day, I use these same skills in my work and my schooling.”
“Earning my Gold Award taught me skills that I’ll use in the future; it made me more responsible,” Danielle said. She encourages other girls to strive for this top award. “Do it,” she said. “Believe in yourself and push yourself to do better each day.”
Your continuous support helped girls buy their first Daisy vest, go on educational fieldtrips, learn about science and technology, and funded their community service projects. You also helped 2,600 girls participate in a great outdoor experience, purchase program equipment and provided nearly $100,000 in financial assistance to girls in need.
Thank you again for your continued support of Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois and our 12,400 girls and nearly 5,000 adult volunteers. You are truly making a difference! Your gift will help us to continue to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. When girls like Danielle and Nicolle succeed, so does the world.
