Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is very pleased to announce that three GSSI Robotics Teams took home awards at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Qualifier on Saturday, December 9 at Henning Elementary in Troy, IL.
Congratulations to The Flower STEMs for winning the Judge’s Award, The Knights of the Round Lego (pictured above) for winning the Core Values Award, and, last but not least, GIR! (Girls Investigating Robotics) for winning the Project Award.
The Knights of the Round Lego and GIR! will join SWAT in progressing to the Illinois Tesla Championship Tournament at the University of Illinois in Champaign on January 27, 2018.
GSSI’s metro-east robotics teams are sponsored by The Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company, which awarded GSSI a $25,000 grant to support GSSI’s STEM initiatives in Jersey, Macoupin, Madison and St. Clair Counties. This grant is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund focused on strengthening the Greater St. Louis community, where Monsanto Fund and Monsanto Company are headquartered.
The Flower STEMs is coached by Megan Terrell and George Mitchom, from O’Fallon, IL. Team members include Adelaide Peresta, Maddie Dissett, Jes Terrell, and Alana Mitchom. The Knights of the Round Lego is coached by Winnie Kenney and Kevin Poncirolli, from O’Fallon, IL. Team members include Elysia Zabala, Isabella Ponciroli, Heather Kenney, and Anya Kenney. GIR! is coached by Sarah and Jason Dothager, from Staunton, IL. Team members include Abigail Lesko, Kendall Sigafoos, Lily Dothager, Makenna Burney, Maia Dothager, Olivia Crain, Priya Siegfired, Tyler Wright, and Vivienne Dothager.
