Girl Scout Golf Tournament - May 17, 2010

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois held their annual golf tournament on May 17 at Gateway National Golf Links. Thanks to Ralph Korte and Larry Lucco, tournament co-chairs, the golf tournament raised $30,000 to support girl program development, camp maintenance and improvements and financial assistance for girls. GSSI thanks all of the players, sponsors and volunteers who made this year’s tournament so successful. For photos, please click here.

Did You Know?

During 2009, the Girl Scouts invested more than $3.2 million in direct services for our 14,500 girl members and 5,100 adult volunteers. That represents about $250 per girl in your community.

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois will spend over $100,000 during 2010 in financial assistance to ensure all girls can benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

We are looking for people living and working in our communities to join our Development Department in creating a Development Team to guide and support our development staff. We are also looking for individuals to help create a Friends of Girl Scouting group. If interested, please contact Tina Barnard, Director of Development at 618.692.0692/800.345.6858 or e-mail her at tbarnard@gsofsi.org.

Grant Funding

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois continuously seeks grant opportunities to help fund a variety of our Girl Scout programs. Three of the primary programs needing funding are: In-School Scouting, World of Exploration and Adventurers. The Girl Scouts receive grants from various foundations including: The Kemper Foundation, Employee Community Fund of Boeing St. Louis, Conoco Phillips Company and The Suburban Journals Old News Boys just to name a few.

Money received through these grants support one of the three programs and helps pay for girl program development and financial assistance for girls in need. If you know of a corporation that supports community organizations please contact the Development Department with your recommendations.

Grant Update: The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois has been award two GSUSA grants totaling more than $15,000. The first grant is a Lockheed Martin Career Exploration grant and the second is a Motorola First Lego Robotics grant. The Lockheed Martin grant will help fund programming that introduces girls to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. The Motorola First Lego Robotics grant provides the Girl Scouts an opportunity to form its first Robotics Team…how exciting!

United Way Proud Partner

The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is a Proud Partner of the United Way. Each year, GSSI receives monetary support from various United Ways throughout southern Illinois. Without the United Way’s continued support of the Girl Scouts, we would not be able to provide as many wonderful programs, services and activities for our 14,500 girl members and dedicated adult volunteers. Thanks United Way!
