Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is very lucky to have some exceptional volunteers that are instrumental in providing training to our adult volunteers. Without them and their commitment to Girl Scouting, GSSI would be unable to provide the number and variety of training courses that it does.

What do Council Facilitators do?
Council Facilitators deliver and evaluate courses and workshops for other adult Girl Scout volunteers (and sometimes Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors). Facilitators choose the courses they teach based upon their interests.

What are the benefits?
As a Council Facilitator, you will:

  • develop presentation skills which may also be useful in your professional or personal life;
  • receive free training, ongoing support and recognition;
  • meet other adult volunteers from across the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Council jurisdiction;
  • gain a deep sense of personal satisfaction from sharing your time and talents to help other volunteers.

Who can become a Council Facilitator?
Any adult who cares about girls and their future, including: women, men, college students, working professionals, work-at-home parents,
retirees......just to name a few! Prior experience and knowledge of Girl Scouting is helpful, but not required ... we will train you.

What are the expectations?
Becoming a Council Facilitator is easy and fun! Basic requirements include:

  • interview with and appointment by the Director of Volunteer Development
  • registered membership with Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
  • completion of Facilitator’s Course
  • decide the courses you wish to teach
  • co-facilitate with an experienced facilitator when you deliver your fi rst couple of courses

We ask that you conduct at least three (3) trainings per year and attend an annual Facilitator’s Update. As a Council Facilitator, you will have the opportunity to teach courses in your own community and travel throughout the Council’s service area.

How do I get involved?
Contact the Director of Volunteer Development at 618.692.0692 or 800.345.6858, ext. 1141 to learn more about becoming a Council Facilitator and expand your horizons!
