Girl Scout alums and supporters across southern Illinois are joining forces as the Girl Scout Network of Southern Illinois. The group is part of a national network of people who are passionate about the power of Girl Scouting in developing women leaders. Members learn, make friends and plan ways to support Girl Scouts. The next Girl Scout Network of Southern Illinois event is a virtual happy hour on Tuesday, October 27, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Zoom. The happy hour will be followed by a national Girl Scout Network Campfire Chat from 6 to 7 p.m.
“Thousands of Girl Scout alums in southern Illinois believe in the impact of Girl Scouting on a girl’s life,” says Anne Haltenhof, Girl Scout Network of Southern Illinois volunteer. “We invite everyone who wants to pay it forward to join us. We will make friends and enjoy ourselves while we support our future leaders.”
Haltenhof is the guest speaker at the October 27 happy hour. She is first vice chair of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Board of Directors and a lifelong Girl Scout. After a career in financial services, Haltenhof credits Girls Scouts with starting her on the path to success.
The Campfire Chat following happy hour is entitled “Run for it: How to Run for Local Office.” A panel of advocates for more women in office will discuss the benefits of women governing the U.S., states and cities. Participants also will learn about the tools, language and perspective necessary to run. Both adults and high school girls are welcome to be part of this live virtual event. Register now to join the chat live or view the playback later.
