Laura Gandy from Summerfield, who serves as a volunteer with Service Unit 202 ClinClair, has received the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Volunteer Spotlight Award. This is what her nominator, Marsha Shirley, had to say about her:
"Laura is such a kind-hearted, open minded person. She accepts everyone for who they are! She says her door is always open when someone is in need or if they need a safe place. She is a hard worker and works long hours, but still manages to put her family first and do what is best for her children.
Laura wants the best for all of the girls in our troop. She helps them to find their inner self and shows them how to have an open mind and to think outside the box. She is always there to drive, bring snacks, volunteer her time and skills, and mentor our girls. She is an amazing co-leader and I don't know what I would do without her! She helps to keep me and the troop on track. She is hands on when it comes to cookie sales, cookie booths, meetings events, campouts and more. I am very lucky to have such an amazing lady by side to help me mold our young Girl Scouts into amazing women."
The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois Volunteer Spotlight Award recognizes the incredible service and dedication that our amazing volunteers devote to Girl Scouts' mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Volunteers are nominated by their peers as a way to celebrate their achievements and commitment to the Girl Scout movement.
