Guidelines During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The health and well-being of our girls, volunteers, and staff are our top concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois will keep our activity guidelines up-to-date based on the most recent guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), as well as state and local officials and health experts.

Girls and adults must social distance or wear masks at all times. Please abide by all guidelines for your region set by the State of Illinois COVID-19 Response team. The Girl Scout council is included in the setting named “meetings, events and gatherings (excluding in-person school or sports)" on the Restore Illinois Mitigation Plan website. Our council's jurisdiction falls within Regions 3, 4, 5 and 6. See the State of Illinois' Coronavirus Response region map. Thank you for helping keep our girls, volunteers and communities safe and healthy!

Before meeting, please review all guidelines on our website. Waivers and pre-screening forms are found below.

Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois is following local and state mandates in the case of COVID-19, an extremely contagious virus. Girl Scouts encourages volunteers, parents and guardians to take all reasonable precautions to limit potential exposure to this virus for girls, volunteers and families. The safety, health and well-being of our members is our first priority.

Group gatherings must meet requirements set for your region by the State of Illinois COVID-19 Response team. All guidelines should be followed in conjunction with  Safety Activity Checkpoints .

Transportation

Troops and/or groups may use public transportation or carpool to events. However, it is imperative to take all safety precautions when girls are traveling in motor vehicles together. Coronavirus transmission risk is high when people are in close proximity within six feet. The risk increases when people are in an enclosed area or indoors for longer than 10-15 minutes. When transporting girls, always space out the girls to avoid crowding, have girls wear a mask covering the nose and mouth, and keep the windows partially open to provide ventilation. Make sure parents are aware ahead of time if girls will be in a car together. Always, for every in-person event, meeting, or transportation arrangement, conduct the pre-screening process to reduce the risk of coronavirus exposure at Girl Scout gatherings.

Remember:

  • Girls and adults should wear masks when inside of a motor vehicle
  • Keep car windows opened, at least partially, to circulate fresh air

Consider the personal situation of your girls:

1. Do they live with an immune compromised person that they can put at risk? If so, perhaps make other accommodations for her with her parents.

2. Pre-screen all passengers since enclosed travel creates more risk.
