STEM and Robotics
Through community collaborations, Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois provides an extensive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program that allows girls to participate in robotics competitions, build bridges, discover science & technology and explore opportunities in non-traditional fields to uncover their full potential.
Girl Scouts are learning valuable life skills as they discover how to build and program robots. Under the guidance of mentors, girls experiment with new techniques and learn from the outcomes. Girl Scouts who participate in robotics teams discover their ability to succeed with technology while developing strong teamwork skills. We have robotics teams for all grade levels! Our JrFLL teams are for girls in grades K-3, our FLL teams are for girls in grades 4-8 and our FIRST Tech Challenge teams are for girls in grades 9-12. If you are interested in joining or starting a robotics team, let us know!
At Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois, we are always looking for community and business partners to help discover girls’ potential through STEM. STEM jobs are among the fastest growing sectors of our economy, yet only 25% of the STEM workforce is women. Research has pointed to the importance of mentors for attracting, retaining and promoting women in STEM careers. You and your business or community organization can help by funding a robotics program, mentoring girls on robotics teams or science career choices or partnering to host a STEM program or event. If you are interested in being an advocate for girls in STEM, we’d love to hear from you!
