Calling Girl Scouts of all ages! In honor of Juliette Gordon Low's birthday, help Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois create birthday bags for local food pantries throughout October. This council-wide community service project will run from October 1st to October 31st, ending on Juliette Gordon Low's Birthday. There is no cost for this program.
Preorder patch only! Please order the GSofSI Birthday Bags patch from our Council Shop by November 3, 2025.
By celebrating birthdays in the community, this service project focuses on making a positive impact by helping those in need. A birthday is a big deal! A day of celebrating the coming year with exciting opportunities. We want to share that excitement with others by sharing that we are thinking of them on their birthday. This is a memorable experience for Girl Scouts and everyone involved.
Troops will help their local community by creating bags full of items needed to celebrate a birthday to donate to local food pantries. This project focuses on serving others by making them feel special on an important day, their birthday! Donations for the project should be collected during the month of October and can be taken to local food pantries found in your community.
Items to donate for birthday bags:

  • Birthday Cake Mix
  • Icing
  • Balloons
  • Cake pans (dollar store) Can be used to hold items in place of a bag
  • Gift or other large bags to hold items
  • Candles
  • Streamers
  • Tablecloth(s)

Troops can exchange or add other items to create their own unique spin on a birthday bag for their local food pantry. This program is virtual and can be completed at your own pace.
