This blended course will focus on information and skills to prevent,
recognize, and respond to small craft emergencies on flat water, such
as lakes and ponds. It will also prepare you for non-swimming rescues
for water emergencies, execute self-rescue skills, and how to teach
basic flat-water paddling strokes. This training is valid for 2 years
and can be renewed by retaking the blended program.
Prerequisite: 416 (GSofSI Council) Small Craft Safety and 416 (GSofSI
Council) Waterfront Safety: Water Watcher Training (All online
learning details for Canoe training will be released and shared with
registrants through their confirmation letters.) Additionally, all
participants must be able to swim 50 yards with/without wearing a life
jacket and tread water for one minute. Participants must be able to
paddle a canoe forward, backward, and in a circle to pass course. Cost
is $30 per person.
