Take flight with Girl Scouts in this exciting Adopt-a-Pilot Patch
Program, a multi-week aviation adventure connected to the Women's Air
Race Classic (WARC)-the longest-running air race for women pilots in
the world! From May 15, 2026, through June 27, 2026, girls will adopt
a real WARC pilot team, follow their journey across the country, and
learn firsthand how women lead, compete, and thrive in aviation.
Through hands-on research, race tracking, interviews, logistics
challenges, and teamwork, girls will build skills in STEM, leadership,
communication, and problem-solving. The program culminates with an
in-person celebration at the Mount Vernon finish line on June 27,
where Girl Scouts will cheer on their adopted pilots after they land,
meet aviation professionals, and participate in on-site challenges and
activities.
Activities are designed to be age-appropriate, with
unique experiences for different grade levels. Girl Scouts in grades
K-5 will enjoy guided exploration through games, maps, storytelling,
and hands-on aviation activities that spark curiosity and imagination.
Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 will dive deeper into research, data
analysis, leadership roles, and logistics or media-based challenges
that highlight advanced STEM concepts and career pathways.
This
program offers a meaningful opportunity to connect Girl Scouts with
women in STEM and aviation, build confidence, and explore future
possibilities in leadership and flight-related careers-all while
participating in a nationally recognized aviation event happening
right in our community. No prior aviation experience is needed-just
curiosity, teamwork, and a sense of adventure.
Troops and
individually registered Girl Scouts are welcome to participate. Most
program activities are completed independently at the troop or family
level between May 15 and June 27, with free participation in the June
27 Mount Vernon Youth Day finish line celebration to earn the
Adopt-a-Pilot Patch.
Adopt-a-Pilot fun patches are
pre-ordered through our council shop. Orders are due by 7/6/26.
Leaders & Caregivers: At the start of the patch program,
the activity packet will also be accessible through your MyGS Account.
Go to My Events and select the event. Scroll to the bottom of the page

The June 27 Mount Vernon landing event is

Scout events, adults attending the event are responsible for the
safety and well-being of the youth who are in their care during the
event. Do not leave your Girl Scouts in the care of other adults at
the event who are not part of your troop or directly related to the
child.
