Get ready to make a positive impact-one piece of trash at a time! Join Girl Scouts on October 3, 2026, for an exciting Trail Clean-Up Day inspired by Leave No Trace principles and the new sport of spo-gomi (a team-based, trash-collecting race). Girls will spend one action-packed hour racing through trails and green spaces, caring for the outdoors while practicing Leave No Trace ethics. Teams will collect litter, sort it, and weigh their trash at the end of the hour to see just how much good they've done! The in-person Clean Team Challenge event will take place at two locations, but the adventure doesn't stop there-girls may also form their own teams and compete virtually at a state park or local greenspace in their own community, making this a flexible, council-wide challenge.
How It Works
* Girls participate in teams and collect trash for one hour
* Leave No Trace principles guide all activities
* Trash is weighed at the end of the challenge
* Teams submit their results to council
* Top teams will have a chance to win a prize!
Registration Options
* Leave No Trace Challenge (non-competitive) - D-A
Open to everyone-learn, explore, and help protect the outdoors. There is no cost to participate in this challenge. Pre-order your fun patch from our Council Shop!
* Clean Team Challenge (competitive) - J-A
$5 per girl includes participation in the race, prize eligibility, and an event fun patch. Competition rules and submission details will be sent out via email one week before the event date. Instructions for virtual participation will be emailed to the team two weeks before the event date.

Little House and Ball Fields, Mt. Vernon - 2:30 pm - 4 pm
Virtual Option - Location of your Choice - 10:30 am - 12 pm
This is NOT A DROP OFF EVENT. Adults must register for no cost and are required to remain with their Girl Scouts. As required by Volunteer Essentials and Safety Activity Checkpoints, adults attending this event are responsible for their troop or individual Girl Scouts behavior. During non drop off Girl Scout events, adults attending the event are responsible for the safety and well-being of the youth that are in their care during the event. Do not leave your Girl Scouts in the care of other adults at the event that are not part of your troop or directly related to the child. All adults participating with a troop or registered to volunteer at the event are required to have a current/eligible background check (CBC) and to be a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer.
This is a fast-paced, high-energy way to care for the environment, work as a team, and show how Girl Scouts lead with action. Lace up your shoes, grab your gloves, and let's leave our trails better than we found them!
