As I reflect and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I want to remind us all of the traits of a great leader. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left a lasting legacy in American history by having the moral courage to denounce injustice and striving to unify a country that was feeling the pain of division, which many feel today. He urged Americans to remember our common roots and the importance of justice to bring lasting peace and fairness to all, despite our differences.
Like Dr. King, I TOO HAVE A DREAM TO GET UNIFIED!
We should be leaders who will champion the rights of all mankind. We should not be satisfied until the rights of all people are made as secure as we can make them. We need to be the sincere friend of all people, and they need to know we are speaking from our hearts. We fight for the things we carry near to our hearts, like the right of people to ensure peace and safety for everyone in America. That is a precious peace. That day will come, when we, with the pride of Americans, will dedicate all that we have within us to the happiness and peace that Dr. King treasured. With God’s help, together we can.
We have a moral duty to not only observe, but to take an active role in leadership and stewardship – without malice, but with charity for all. Let us strive to bind up the nation’s wounds and care for those who are hurting so we can have lasting peace for all people.
I have a dream for UNITY, when everyone will be treated as the rational, deserving humans that they are, who are equal in strength and capability. We need to keep the faith in striving for equality and peace, while believing in and empowering ourselves to be agents of change. During some of our darkest days in America, very few leaders have been able to step up to the podium and effectively unify people for a true cause. We must each lift ourselves and others through our hope. What is dangerous here, is turning away. Let us leave a legacy by standing strong and unifying the nation under shared sacrifices of our courage.
I want to remind us today, that this world would be a better place if everyone had the same commitments to human rights as Dr. King did.
