Congratulations to Melissa Heuerman from Effingham . She is being recognized with Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois' Volunteer Spotlight Award for her service with Service Unit 511 Effingham County.
Volunteer Spotlight Awards celebrate volunteers who are honored by their peers for living the Girl Scout Law. Here is why Melissa is being recognized as a shining example of a great volunteer:
"Melissa took over a Girl Scout troop that her daughter was in during COVID. Melissa had a smaller troop of girls and worked with all the restrictions to keep them engaged. During the last two years, I have seen her grow as leader and have watched her Girl Scouts grow from her leadership.
Melissa has showed the girls how to live the Girl Scout Promise and Law. When we have any service unit events, she helps and steps in to volunteer. She is always there when we need her. You can see the difference that she has made in her Girl Scouts lives by the way they light up when they tell me about her and what they have done and learned at their troop meetings. They love to earn badges and patches! Whenever I see any of her Girl Scouts in out in the community, they always share with me something great that she has done with them. She definitely is a positive influence in their lives and for our service unit. I am proud to have her as one of Effingham County's leaders!"
