Congratulations to Karlene Hoefener from O'Fallon! She is being recognized with Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois' Volunteer Spotlight Award for her service with Service Unit 201 O'Fallon/Shiloh.
Volunteer Spotlight Awards celebrate volunteers who are honored by their peers for living the Girl Scout Law. Here is why Karlene is being recognized as a shining example of a great volunteer:
"Karlene is an extraordinary Girl Scout. She is tireless in her efforts to provide fun and engaging activities for Girl Scouts.
Karlene quickly jumped on board to help plan and coordinate a “mini” Day Camp for Service Unit 201 when the restrictions surrounding COVID-19 made it possible. Beginning in mid-March, Karlene quickly mapped out a plan of action and got to work. The to-do list for a day camp is long, but Karlene quickly made short work of it, securing a venue, creating and organizing the schedule of activities, recruiting volunteers, ordering t-shirts (and personalizing them herself!), getting patches and bandannas, gathering supplies, coordinating the menu, securing equipment - she left no task undone.
Through her efforts, over 55 girls enjoyed three days of "mini" fun, making new friends, learning new Girl Scout songs and skills, earning badges, being creative and even getting a little cool during the extreme heat advisory.
The last day camp Service Unit 201 held was in a completely different venue, under different worldwide health concerns - but neither the new venue, the new health awareness protocol or even the extreme heat advisory could change Karlene's focus to provide the best possible "mini" Day Camp for the Girl Scouts of Service Unit 201.
She is truly unstoppable and greatly admired for all she does for Girl Scouts. There could never be enough thanks offered to Karlene for all she has done for Girl Scouts. She is an extraordinary treasure!"
