Congratulations to Karla Issak from Granite City! She is being recognized with Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois' Volunteer Spotlight Award for her service with Service Unit 102 Granite City/Madison/Venice.
Volunteer Spotlight Awards celebrate volunteers who are honored by their peers for living the Girl Scout Law. Here is why Karla is being recognized as a shining example of a great volunteer:
"Karla was approached about stepping up and becoming a leader of first year Brownies. She was hesitant on taking on such a big task with just joining the troop, but a few short months later, and she's stepped into co-leader, and troop cookie role.
Recently she attended her first ever Girl Scout campout and you would have thought she was a pro. She took lead on activities and helped guide the girls. If she stayed behind on a hike or game, I would come back to her and a completely clean and organized area.
It has been such a pleasure working with her. Karla may feel like she's just doing what any Girl Scout mom would do, but she doesn't realize how the little things mean so much more for her leader, the troop, the service unit, and the whole Girl Scout experience.
Karla worried about dipping her toes in, yet she's completely submerged into her troop and is doing so well at staying above water, while helping all those around her. She's an amazing asset to the whole Girl Scout program. We can't wait to see where she grows into next."
