Congratulations to Cathi Ponciroli from Belleville! She is being recognized with Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois' Volunteer Spotlight Award for her service with Service Unit 201 O'Fallon/Shiloh.
Volunteer Spotlight Awards celebrate volunteers who are honored by their peers for living the Girl Scout Law. Here is why Cathi is being recognized as a shining example of a great volunteer:
"Cathi is a long-time leader of two Girl Scout troops- a Junior Troop and a Senior Troop. She is also a GS VIP – a Girl Scout coordinator who assists and mentors all Girl Scout Troops at St. Clare Catholic School.
Cathi is enthusiastic, innovative and imaginative. She is dedicated to not only her Girl Scout troops but believes in Girl Scouts and all it offers to our future leaders.
When the service unit decided to hold a three day “mini” Day Camp for the girls in Service Unit 201, and the call went out for volunteers, Cathi was the first to respond. She didn’t hesitate a bit to offer her leadership to the Junior unit. Little did she know she would have 20 excited 4th and 5th graders, eager for some summer Girl Scout fun. Nor did she know those three days would be under an extreme heat advisory! But Cathi is a consummate leader, she was engaging, flexible and cool under the weather conditions. The girls in the Junior unit at the Service Unit 201 “mini” Camp thoroughly enjoyed having Cathi as their Unit Leader and are eagerly looking forward to seeing her again at camp next year!
Cathi is a voice of reason amidst the chaos and is truly a wonderful person and Girl Scout leader. She is calm under challenging conditions and delivered a great Day Camp experience to the Junior unit. The girls will remember her imparting her knowledge and injecting fun into their “mini” camp days for a long time to come!
