Congratulations to Leticia Riggs from O'Fallon She is being recognized with Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois' Volunteer Spotlight Award for her service with Service Unit 201 O'Fallon/Shiloh.
Volunteer Spotlight Awards celebrate volunteers who are honored by their peers for living the Girl Scout Law. Here is why Leticia "Tish" Riggs is being recognized as a shining example of a great volunteer:
"After the Troop Co-Leader moved, Tish took over as a Co-Leader, and Troop Treasurer in (then) Cadette Troop 213 and held these roles through her own daughter's high school graduation in May 2022 and beyond. Tish also took on the role of Troop Candy/Nut Manager when her daughter became a Senior Girl Scout and has retained that role as well through this year. This is the final year for Troop 213 as the remaining Girl Scouts are graduating high school this May.
Tish has been such an important part of Troop 213. She fills needed roles, offers guidance, shares her skills and knowledge (she has held sewing meetings for the troop - teaching Girl Scouts how to sew by hand as well as by machine), as well as provides encouragement, endless support, and positivity. She has also kept track of the troop's candy/nut sales and troop finances - including working with six girls raising money for Silver Award projects and two girls raising money for their Gold Award projects over the years).
Tish is always ready to lend a hand, an ear, or support in any capacity. She has attended countless cookie booths, kept track of the flow of money from cookie sales and made too many SWaP's for World Thinking Day events over the years. Tish has truly been irreplaceable within Troop 213. Here are a few words from Girl Scouts (present and past) in Troop 213:
Sydney McAuliffe (2021 Graduate, Gold AwardGirl Scout/Trifecta recipient):
'Tish Riggs is someone who can be counted on. I remember her being at countless meetings and events to support the troop. She has been the troop "accountant" for the majority of the time I was in Girl Scouts (in O'Fallon, IL). She always made sure that we were budgeting correctly and had money to do fun stuff as a troop, as well as participating as a parent by going to numerous Girl Scout cookie booths, and helping out any way she could. She is very dedicated to Girl Scouts and making the best memories possible. She is an amazing Girl Scout and has made my experience amazing!'
Theo Jackson (Silver Award Girl Scout, earning Gold Award, graduating high school Senior):
'Ms. Tish is a caring, hard-working and loving person. She puts a lot of effort and time in helping the troop stay organized. She shows a genuine interest in our lives and manages to be here for us. She's an essential member of our family and continues to be supportive.'
Maeleigh Savin (Graduating high school Senior):
'Ms. Tish is a very caring woman. She is a very essential member of our troop. She helps budget our money in the troop and she's in charge of all of that. She helps us stay organized and that's really important. She's a very supportive person and I'm really glad she is a part of the family we have made.'
Caila Riggs (Bronze Award & Silver Award Girl Scout, 2022 graduate):
'Having my mom as part of Troop 213 has been an adventure. At first, I was nervous about her joining. She would be getting all the meeting information and probably push me to work harder on my Girl Scout work. Being a good parent and troop helper, she did. I was able to finish badges and a journey I had been working on for a long time. Seeing her talk to my fellow Girl Scouts also showed me another side of her. She cares about the troop and how everyone is doing. I'm so glad she decided to help because she is a valuable member of the troop and brings lots of energy to the meetings.'
In addition to all she has done for Troop 213, Tish took on the challenge of being the Service Unit 201 Fall Product Manager for the 2022/2023 Girl Scout year. In the words of Co-Service Unit Managers Mae Scott and Andrea Markwardt: "Our service unit desperately needed someone to fill the Service Unit Nut & Candy Manager role. Tish stepped up and did a fantastic job from start to finish. She provided excellent communication and support for our leaders. Without her, we wouldn't have been able to participate. Volunteers like her help make our Service Unit successful!"
