This activity blends outdoor fun with hands-on learning, helping Girl Scouts develop observation skills and a deeper appreciation for the trees that make our parks thrive! Download your bingo card, explore nature, and have fun spotting trees!

Celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks and experience the natural beauty of the Cache River on a guided kayak tour! Join us for a 4.6-mile kayak trail loop through the serene bottomland swamp, where you will encounter diverse wildlife and lush landscapes. Explore the beauty of Southern Illinois with expert naturalists on a kayak tour. Learn about the areas history, ecology, and wildlife as you immerse yourself in the serene surroundings while floating along the beautiful water. Cost is $30 per Girl Scout.
Make it a Weekend Adventure!
Want to extend your outdoor experience? Pair this kayak tour with our overnight campout from 5 p.m. on September 13 through 9 a.m. on September 14 at Ferne Clyffe State Park! Spend the night under the stars at a nearby state park, enjoy a classic campfire experience, and wake up refreshed for your paddling adventure. Be sure to register separately for the Ferne Clyffe State Park Overnight Campout (information seen below) to secure your spot!
Adult Volunteer Chaperones:
We are looking for a few adult chaperones to paddle with us! If you plan to register, you may be responsible for assisting Girl Scouts, staff, and/or other responsibilities. Please register if you are interested. Once you register, GSofSI Staff member, Val Blandina will contact you with more details.

Celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks with an unforgettable overnight campout at Ferne Clyffe State Park! Set up camp, play games, connect with fellow Girl Scouts, and enjoy a delicious camp dinner, dessert over the fire, and stargazing under the night sky. Make the most of Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend by spending the night immersed in nature at Ferne Clyffe State Park! This overnight adventure is the perfect way to connect with nature, meet fellow Girl Scouts, and experience all the best parts of camping. Cost is $30 per Girl Scout.
Want to keep the adventure going?
Girl Scouts have the option to join another group for a guided paddle on the Cache River! This kayak tour requires a separate registration for September 14 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. (information seen above) - be sure to sign up if you would like to explore the beautiful bottomland swamp by water. You can choose to paddle before the campout on Saturday, September 13 or after the campout on Sunday, September 14 or do both!

GSofSI State Parks Patch Program
All year long, Girl Scouts can earn patches by visiting five amazing Illinois state parks: Giant City State Park, Cache River State Natural Area, Beall Woods State Park, Pere Marquette State Park and Fort Massac State Park. Each of these locations has its own unique patch.
To earn a patch:
- Visit one of the state parks listed.
- Set off around the park and learn about the history, flora and fauna.
- Complete the patch guide and return it to the visitor's center
to get a signature. - You did it! Contact our Council Shop at 800-345-6858 or by emailing customercare@gsofsi.org and your new patch will be shipped out to you!
