Agency For Community Transit Receives Distinguished Community Leader Award
Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois (GSofSI) is pleased to honor Agency for Community Transit (ACT) with their annual Distinguished Community Leader Award. ACT will be recognized during the organization's 2025 United We Lead Gala on Sept. 12. The event, held at The Leclaire Room in Edwardsville, is the nonprofit’s premier event to raise funds and celebrate the positive impact that Girl Scouts have on communities across its 40-county jurisdiction.
ACT has been a catalyst in making Camp Torqua more accessible. The 72-acre Girl Scout camp, which is located outside of Edwardsville, has been greatly enhanced by grant funding they have provided.
Some of the projects that have been made possible include:
- ADA-compliant entrance to our new showerhouse/storm shelter
- Paved connection between cabins at The Pines
- Walkway to archery range
- Multiple paved trails for greater accessibility to the outdoors
These features have helped make outdoor adventure available for even more Girl Scouts.

"Their investment has not only made it possible to make necessary upgrades to our camp, but it has ensured that every girl can experience the property to its fullest. Camping should be an opportunity for every girl to enjoy, regardless of their abilities – and Agency for Community Transit has made that possible for us at Camp Torqua.”
